Today’s my birthday! Madeleine Rex is officially fifteen years old. I’m both excited and nervous. The past year has been ridiculously productive, so I feel like I’ve accomplished a lot (often thanks to you guys!), but I’m also worried this next year will be a huge let-down and I won’t make nearly as much progress toward published-author-dom. We shall see!
As I have nothing to blog about today and this poem made me smile like mad, I’m posting the poem my aunt wrote in her birthday card to me:
A tribute may I offer
to Madeleine, the child author:
She writes no rubbish,
and they’re gonna publish
her work till they fill up her coffer.
I’m hoping so, Susan!

Love is a blessing
Home is a blessing
Chocolate is a blessing
A blessing we can chew.
You are a miracle.
I am a miracle.
We are all miracles
Living on one too.
Birds in abundance
Chocolate in abundance
Love in abundance
Miracles and Blessings are not few.

This is a poem I spat out. In fact, I never write a poem unless I write four or more of them in quick succession. That explains why some of them are rubbish and deserve to be thrown in the dumpster along with stories I wrote four years ago. I can’t seem to find the gumption to toss them, though.
Happiness is not for every day.
Happiness is not for fun or play.
Happiness is for special occasions.
Happiness is not to be handed to you.
Happiness is to be sought and earned by you.
Happiness is a reward.
Happiness is not for those who are of pleasure or jollity.
Happiness is for those with a certain quality.
Happiness is for the determined.
Happiness is love sublime.
Happiness is not all mine.
Happiness is to be shared.
Happiness is to be taken with care.
Happiness is not to be won with a dare.
Happiness is for the worthy.
Happiness is yours and mine.
Happiness is love divine.
Happiness does not involve a tear.
Your happiness is my happiness, my dear.
